\nWhat is a style guide?
\nWell a style guide basically has all the information about a client’s brand, ie. acceptable fonts, Pantone colours, web colours, size of logo in relation to other logos, etc. In other words, there is more to a brand than a logo! Basically another designer would be able to take a style guide, and they would be able to design any sort of marketing material that the client may need, for example, website, flyer, banner, etc., and it would all look nice and consistent.

\nWhy is it important?
\nWell some clients will come to us for a logo, but then go to a printer for a business card, since many printers offer business card design for free when you print with them. If we have done a style guide for that client, we can send that guide to the printer, and based on the information in it, they should be able to design a business card (or anything for that matter) and have all the info they need to keep all the branding the same across the board.

\nAnd that is why a style guide is a good idea!
